KUCHING, May 27: The establishment of a casino in Borneo Highlands Resort should not only be perceived from the gambling aspect, said Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

Rather, he pointed out that the project should also be seen positively from the socio-economic development aspect.

“For a casino (in Borneo Highlands), we should not see it just from the gambling aspect, but from the socio-economic development brought by the investors.

“For example, we can build a theme park, chalets and hotels for the people to earn income.

“And if more people can come to the area, it will surely benefit the locals to sell their products,” Sagah said.

Sagah told reporters this after opening the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) 10th Triennial General Assembly (TGA) at its headquarters, here today.

Sagah further said although there were some people who disagreed with the project, which he said was normal everywhere, there were also many people who agreed.

“When we want to build a casino there, of course we don’t encourage people to gamble.

“Even without the casino, there are people who gamble online (illegally) and via other gaming outlets,” the Tarat assemblyman elaborated.

Having said that, Sagah stressed that the onus lies with Sarawak government which issues the gambling license. — DayakDaily
