Another suspect arrested following seizure of ganja seedlings, dry leaves from siblings in Sibu

SIBU, May 27: Another suspect has been arrested in connection with the seizure of two ganja seedlings which were in the possession of two siblings on May 24.

Sibu district police chief Zulkipli Suhaili said today that the suspect, 24, was detained at the judicial department at 9am on May 25.


The man has no previous criminal record but tested positive for ganja.

“The suspect has been remanded for four days until May 30 to assist the investigation,” he said.

The investigation is under Section 68 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 2952 and Section 15(2) (a) of the same Act.

Section 68 provides for life imprisonment and whipping of not less than six times if convicted, while Section 15(2) (a) carries a fine of RM5,000 and a jail term of not more than two years.

On May 24, a 50-year-old man and his 55-year-old sister were arrested at about 12.15am at a house in Lorong Rambai for having two ganja seedlings and dry leaves believed to be ganja worth RM20,000.

A car worth RM80,000 was also seized. — DayakDaily
