KUCHING, March 4: EDOTCO Malaysia and Kejuruteraan Rasshin Sdn Bhd (KRSB) have formalised a strategic collaboration to accelerate next-generation telecommunications infrastructure development in Sarawak, aligning with the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030.
The agreement was signed Monday (March 3) at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 Barcelona, witnessed by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Emba and Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, at the launch of the Sarawak Pavilion.
According to a media release, the partnership aims to bridge the digital divide, improve connectivity for urban and rural communities, and drive Sarawak’s digital transformation.
KRSB, a fully Sarawak Bumiputera-owned company, is a trusted name in Mechanical & Electrical (M&E), Civil & Structural (C&S), and Telecommunications infrastructure, backed by its ISO 9001:2015 certification. As a registered vendor under the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), KRSB plays a key role in the state’s digital infrastructure development.
By combining KRSB’s local expertise with EDOTCO’s advanced telecommunications capabilities, the partnership will focus on rolling out 4G and 5G-ready infrastructure, ensuring faster network expansion and wider digital accessibility.
This initiative is set to unlock new economic opportunities and support key digital sectors such as smart city development, digital education, e-commerce, and government digitalisation efforts.
EDOTCO’s director of Malaysia Business Gayan Koralage emphasised that this partnership is a crucial step toward ensuring that every community in Sarawak, regardless of location, has access to reliable, high-speed connectivity.
“As the nation’s digital infrastructure partner, EDOTCO is capable of delivering customised, fit-for-purpose solutions that cater to Sarawak’s unique landscape. By joining forces, we are helping Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) expand their reach faster and more efficiently across the State,” he said.
EDOTCO will introduce innovative, data-driven solutions tailored to Sarawak’s geographic challenges, including low-orbit satellite technology and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) for hard-to-reach areas. Additionally, the collaboration will enhance shared telecommunications infrastructure, providing cost-efficient, scalable, and sustainable solutions for mobile operators.
KRSB’s managing director Mohammed Ariffin Adenan expressed enthusiasm for the joint venture, stating that the partnership aligns with its mission to enhance Sarawak’s infrastructure through innovative and sustainable solutions.
“This collaboration will empower local communities and businesses, integrating them into the state’s evolving digital ecosystem,” he said.
The initial phase will prioritise commercial, industrial, and rural areas, ensuring that Sarawak’s key economic zones have access to reliable, high-speed connectivity. Over time, the partnership will support emerging digital applications, enterprise connectivity solutions, and integrated smart infrastructure, laying the foundation for a future-proof telecommunications ecosystem.
With Sarawak investing RM2.25 billion in telecommunications infrastructure, the EDOTCO-KRSB collaboration complements initiatives like the Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN) and SMART towers, reinforcing public-private partnerships to drive economic growth and digital inclusivity.
As Sarawak advances toward becoming a premier digital investment hub, this collaboration marks a significant milestone in realising the State’s vision for a connected, smart, and sustainable future. — DayakDaily
