KUCHING, Nov 7: Balanced economic development, poverty, and renewable energy are among the topics discussed at the 2023 National Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Council Meeting, according to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) reported that the 2023 National SDGs Council Meeting addressed the SDGs within the scope of matters monitored by Malaysia and the United Nations (UN), as stated by the Premier.
Abang Johari was among the leaders in attendance at the meeting, which was chaired by Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim and lasted approximately one hour, at the Parliament Building in Kuala Lumpur today.
“The UN commissioner mentioned what Sarawak is doing from the point of view of renewable energy.
“In development, we take into account what has been mentioned by the United Nations regarding the sustainability programme,” said the Premier, as quoted by Ukas.
The SDGs are implemented in three phases according to the national development plan, starting with the 11th Malaysia Plan, 2016-2020, and currently being implemented in the 12th Malaysia Plan, 2021-2025, and will continue in the 13th Malaysia Plan, 2025-2030.
Meanwhile, the Premier is scheduled to attend the Sarawak – Petronas Annual Strategic Dialogue 2023 at the Petronas Twin Tower in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (Nov 7).
Earlier, Abang Johari was scheduled to receive a courtesy visit from Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) president and group chief executive officer (CEO) Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz.
Ukas also noted that the 2023 National SDGs Council Meeting was attended by chief ministers and ministry representatives. — DayakDaily
