KUCHING, July 26: A total of 10,453 companies involving 18,538 vehicles have registered under the company-owned land transport sector covering jeeps and pickup trucks of the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) in Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan as of July 23—making up over half of the numbers registered nationwide.
According to Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, this is an increase from the numbers recorded on July 18, which saw 7,241 companies involving 13,557 vehicles in East Malaysia.
Breaking it down, Sabah recorded the most with 5,583 companies involving 10,046 vehicles, followed by Sarawak with 4,713 companies involving 8,292 vehicles, and Labuan with 157 companies involving 200 vehicles.
Nationwide, the numbers stand at 15,388 companies involving 25,781 vehicles, with Peninsular Malaysia registering 4,935 companies involving 7,243 vehicles.
“This shows that more than half—67.9 per cent—of the companies benefiting from the initiative are registered in Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan,” he said in a press conference after the SKDS fleet card presentation ceremony at the Sandakan Sports Complex in Sabah today.
He said the increase in numbers reflected a positive response following the expansion of the targeted diesel subsidy mechanism to the three regions on July 1.
The expansion of SKDS implementation in Sarawak, Sabah, and Labuan covers three sectors—Land Transport (Public), Land Transport (Consumer Goods), and Land Transport (Private Company – Jeeps and Pick-up Trucks).
As of July 23, a total of 190,012 companies, involving 493,160 vehicles, had registered under SKDS nationwide across these three sectors. — DayakDaily
