BINTULU, Aug 5: A two-storey dormitory block at Jalan Sebauh was razed to the ground in an early morning fire which broke out at SK Sebauh, today.
The state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre in a statement disclosed it received the emergency call from a school teacher at 7.07am.
Ten firefighters led by PBK II (KUP) Azman Julaihi from the Bintulu fire station were despatched to the scene, located some 41km away.
According to operations commander TPgB 1 Cristus Buson, one male student dormitory block was 100 per cent destroyed.
Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the female student dormitory block.
Before the arrival of the Bintulu station firefighters, a team of eight volunteer firefighters (PBS) arrived at the scene at 7.30am to carry out the initial firefighting operation.
A total of 24 students (12 from each block) are safe and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters are currently carrying out overhaul work at the scene. — DayakDaily
