KUCHING, Oct 30: Upgrading works at the 1,350-metre stretch of Jalan Tun Jugah that caused dusty road conditions are expected to be completed on Nov 5.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said, following communication with the Public Works Department (JKR) contractor, there is another 800 metres of road that has yet to be treated, but is scheduled to be completed by Nov 3.
“Concerning the road works at Jalan Tun Jugah, it is a Cold In-Place Recycling (CIPR), rehabilitation of the pavement with cement as a stabilising agent. The premix work will start this Sunday evening (Oct 31) and scheduled to complete Friday (Nov 5).
“The main reason we cannot lay premix concurrently after the CIPR because it needs to be cured minimum for 48 hours. We are unable to do frequent watering to overcome the dusty work because it could weaken the base of the road.
“The road users are advised to adhere to the speed limit of 30km/hr when driving in the construction area,” he read the reply from the contractor during his Facebook live session today.
With the situation explained, Wee urged for patience and understanding from the public as every construction project has its shortcomings that could potentially cause inconveniences.
“Of course, I also hope that the contractors could finish up the work as soon as possible and according to schedule,” he added.
Also present during the live session were councillors Bong Lian Huan, Mok Chuang Ping, Kho Teck Wan, and Goh Tze Hui. — DayakDaily
