KUCHING, Aug 18: State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar has said that the Sarawak government intends to increase the number of DUN and Parliamentary areas in the future.

Asfia told reporters this today after officiating the ‘Parliament And DUN Tour Series on Key Findings Of Malaysia Census 2020 And Sarawak Gross Domestic Product (GDP) 2021’ at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here.

“The statistics and data obtained will determine which DUN and parliament areas should be added and how many should be added.

“Like Senadin and Tupong DUN, which have the highest population, it may need to be assessed and demarcated by adding new DUN areas,” he said.

He did, however, explain that these will not be added in the next General Election or State Election.

Meanwhile, when asked about the government’s review of the provisions of Article 17 of the Sarawak Constitution relating to the Anti-Party Hopping Act, Asfia noted that it would be completed in the near future.

“The issue does not need to be brought up at the DUN meeting in November. The deadline is a little off because we will finish it and the results will be available soon,” he remarked. — DayakDaily
