KUCHING, July 19: Dudong assemblyman Dato Sri Tiong King Sing has given his assurance to do all he can to help residents of Lorong 4B and 5C of Taman Sibu Jaya after their homes were damaged by a storm that struck the area on Saturday (July 18).

In a Facebook post, the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture said he instructed his officers to inspect all the affected homes to ensure no victim is overlooked, including identifying damage that may only become apparent after the rain.

“I have also requested the assistance of the Civil Defence Force (APM) to conduct a drone survey to assess the condition of roofs throughout the Sibu Jaya area before submitting a comprehensive report,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP, visited the Rumah Asap eatery in Sibu Jaya, which was also hit by the storm, resulting in 11 victims being temporarily housed at the Sibu Jaya community hall.

“I have been informed that the local council will provide tents. At the same time, I will hold discussions with Amcorp to find the best solution for rebuilding the Rumah Asap so that the community, particularly the Iban community who depend on the facility for their livelihood, can resume their activities as usual.

“As long as there is room to help, I, together with the relevant agencies, will continue working to ensure that every issue faced by residents is addressed as effectively as possible.

“Above all, the safety and well-being of the people will always remain our top priority,” he said. — DayakDaily
