BAU, Sept 4: A 40-year-old local man was arrested after allegedly threatening to kill his son-in-law and family members while they were asleep, as well as threatening to set fire to their house in Kampung Pengkalan Loji here.
In a statement, Bau District Police Chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said that a report was received from a man in his 30s at about 12.34am on Thursday (Sept 3). The complainant is the suspect’s son-in-law.
The incident was believed to have occurred at about 9pm on Wednesday (Sept 2), when the suspect, who was believed to be intoxicated, caused a disturbance and made a commotion inside the house.
The suspect became angry when the complainant and other family members reprimanded him before threatening to kill them in their sleep as well as to set fire to the house. He was also said to have punched the wall in the living room.
It was learned that the suspect had frequently returned home drunk and damaged household items, but these incidents had never been reported to police.
“The suspect, who is the complainant’s wife’s father, has been remanded for four days from Sept 3 to 7 to assist with investigations.
“The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994,” he said. — DayakDaily
