Drunk act of vandalism gets man fined RM3,500

KUCHING, Sept 12: A man was sentenced to a RM3,500 fine or six months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court today after he pleaded guilty to vandalizing another motorist’s vehicle, resulting in RM250 worth of damage.

The case was heard before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali, where 40-year-old Alemon Achong was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code.

This section imposes a punishment of one to five years in prison, a fine, or both, for committing acts of mischief causing damage.

The charge stated that Alemon, along with four other suspects who remain at large, damaged a sedan car belonging to a 55-year-old man in front of a business premises at MJC Batu Kawa around 10pm on Sept 5, 2024.

According to the facts of the case, the car owner’s son was reversing the vehicle when a masked man approached and kicked the car’s licence plate, breaking it. Another accomplice kicked the door, leaving it dented.

Following the incident, the complainant lodged a police report, leading to Alemon’s arrest on Sept 7, 2024. It was revealed that the accused was intoxicated during the incident.

The prosecution was led by ASP Arman Ibrahim, while the accused did not have legal representation. — DayakDaily
