Drug bust nets RM171k worth of ecstasy, 2 suspects face death penalty

SIBU, Dec 15: Two persons, including a woman, face the mandatory death sentence after they were found with 3,425.9 grammes of drugs worth RM171,270.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said that the duo aged 28 and 53 were caught during a raid conducted by the commercial crime department on a house in Jalan Keranji at about 5.30pm yesterday.

“They were found in possession of 3,420 grammes of ecstasy in powder form and 18 pieces of the same drug weighing 5.90 grammes,” he said.


The 28-year old male suspect’s urine subsequently tested positive for methamphetamine while the woman was negative.

“The male suspect has been remanded for seven days while the woman for three days to assist in the investigation,” Zulkipli added.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Section 15 (1) of the same Act.

Section 39B provides for a death sentence by handing if convicted in court while Section 15(1) carries a fine of RM5,000 and a jail sentence of two years. — DayakDaily
