KUCHING, Dec 11: The drizzling rain did not dampen the spirits of over 1,000 members of the public who converged for the inaugural Kota Sentosa Christmas Parade here last night (Dec 10).
The participants were well prepared, with many holding onto their umbrellas or wearing raincoats.
Several vehicles joining the parade were decorated with colourful lights, hyping the spirit of ushering in the holiday season.
Organised by Sarawak Evangelical Christian Association (SECA) in collaboration with Kota Sentosa Service Centre, the parade spanned over 3km from Dewan Perniagaan Batu 7, passing through Kuching Ranger Depot Road into Lorong Liu Shan Bang 3B, making their way back to the starting point.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said the inaugural event hoped to showcase the spirit of ‘Unity in Diversity,’ which promotes the act of giving, sharing, and caring for all Sarawakians regardless of race and religion.
“Sarawak is different from other states in the establishment of Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) as a State government which is responsible for regulating policies to promote inter-religious harmony while evaluating, proposing and formulating policies, laws and regulations related to other religions in Sarawak.
“This is Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) walking the talk that the needs of every anak Sarawak, regardless of race or religion, will be taken off under Sarawak government policies,” he said in a statement today.
During the parade, Yap presented his Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM10,000 each to SECA and Scripture Union. — DayakDaily
