KUCHING, May 22: The Covid-19 One-Stop Centre and Covid-19 Assessment Centre at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Dewan Masyarakat is meant for drive-thru Covid-19 swab tests and assessments only.
Covid-19 One Stop Centre commander-in-chief Dr Cheong Yaw Liang, in stating this, advised the general public not to walk-in for any tests or assessments as that would disrupt the flow and cause congestion.
He said those who are visiting would not be allowed to park their cars by the roadside and enter the compound in person.
“Such an action will make the drive-thru slower and congested,” he said in a statement today.
He added that 200 individuals who walked in to the centre today had to stand under a canopy while waiting for their turns to be swabbed or assessed.
Just yesterday (May 22), he added, eight frontliners managing the registration, screening and swabbing booths at the centre passed out from heatstroke due to being under the hot weather in their suffocating personal protective equipment (PPEs).
While the PPEs are meant to be worn at a maximum of four hours only, he said the medical personnel were working overtime due to the long queue which required them to stay on after 12pm which is the supposed closing hour of the centre.
With that, Dr Cheong emphasised that the operating hours for the one-stop centre are from 9am to 5pm on weekdays and from 9am to 12pm on weekends and public holidays. — DayakDaily
