KUCHING, July 23: A contractor for the Batu Kawa Lorong 3 drainage upgrading project has been given a stern warning for failing to complete the project on time.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, in a statement today, said the state government would terminate the contract of that contractor if he doesn’t resume work this week.

“The project of upgrading the earth drain to a concrete drain is under the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID). It was approved in October 2017 and was expected to be completed in March 2018.

“However, the contractor failed to deliver, and DID has issued a Certificate of Non-Compliance and a warning letter to the contractor in April and June 2018 respectively,” revealed Dr Sim.

Dr Sim said he was angered when he found out about the issue during a site visit this morning and personally warned the contractor, who was present.

He reminded the contractor that the government would not compromise and those who could not deliver would not be awarded any contracts in future.

The upgrading work is a Rural Transformation Project (RTP) in Batu Kawah constituency to upgrade existing infrastructure as well as for flood mitigation purposes.

The contract for the project is worth RM549,702. — DayakDaily
