Dr Ting ready to defend Pujut amid Amanah interest

MIRI, Oct 23: Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon is prepared to retain his seat for the coming state election due 2021.

However, the DAP lawmaker said the final decision is up to the party’s top leadership.


“I would let the party’s top leadership to decide on the candidates. The final decision is theirs (DAP Sarawak),” he told reporters after presenting awards to 534 excellence students at SMK Taman Tunku here today.

Dr Ting did not rule out the possibility that Parti Amanah Negara, led by Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, could nominate a candidate for Pujut in the next state polls.

In the 2016 state election, Dr Ting polled 8,899 votes to win the Pujut seat in a four-cornered fight against Barisan Nasional’s Hii King Chiong, who garnered 7,140 votes, PAS candidate Jofri Jaraiee (513 votes) and independent candidate Fong Pau Teck, who received 375 votes. — DayakDaily
