KUCHING, July 8: Sarawak ranks among the top states in the country with more than 60 per cent of the population having been vaccinated, said Utilities Minister Dato Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

According to Rundi, out of the total percentage, about 1.3 million Sarawakians have already had their first dose of the vaccine, while another 20 per cent of the total percentage have completed their second dose.

“It is our plan to make sure that all Sarawakians and those who live and work in Sarawak are vaccinated through the public, industrial, as well as the mobile Covid-19 vaccination centres.

“Our expectation is that by the end of August, we should be able to cover not less than 85 per cent of Sarawakians,” he told reporters during his visit to the Mydin Vista Covid-19 vaccination center (PVV) in Petra Jaya, today.

Rundi noted, initially, the vaccination programme implemented throughout the state was slow-moving due to the lack of availability of the vaccines.

“Since the vaccine is available now, the vaccination programme can be planned and rolled out properly throughout the State. In certain areas, the coverage is even doubled or tripled, and most of the areas now are well covered,” he added.

Rundi opined that Sarawak is in the right direction as far as trying to get into Phase Two of the vaccination programme

He pointed out that the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) is looking into how to ease the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in terms opening up the economy and allowing other activities to proceed. — DayakDaily
