KUCHING, Feb 15: There is potential for a new significant Covid-19 cluster which involves factories in Samarahan.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian urged those working in Kuching and Samajaya Industrial Zones to be on alert as there were 12 positive cases in Samarahan reported yesterday (Feb 14).
He expressed worry about the novel coronavirus spreading as many Samarahan residents commute between their workplaces and homes.
Dr Sim also urged the public not to panic if there is active case detection (ACD) conducted in the affected areas.
“Please don’t panic when ACD (is carried out) in all these areas. It is to detect anyone with no symptoms or mild symptoms.
“(It is) not just to stop transmission in your family, workplace or your community, but early detection and treatment can prevent severe infections and deaths,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday (Feb 14).
As for the locations in Samarahan identified as exposed to Covid-19 cases, namely Hadilah Cafe and Univista satay store, he urged for those who patronised them to go for tests.
Dr Sim, who is also the Minister for Local Government and Housing also advised Kuching residents not to be complacent after Kuching experienced low numbers of daily cases lately.
“If you have been to high risk areas or have mild symptoms such as cough, fever, loss of taste or smell, please help and go to the nearest health clinic for Covid-19 risk assessment,” he said. — DayakDaily
