KUCHING, Oct 14: State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian is confident that medical experts at the Ministry of Health (MoH) will make a decision regarding administering booster shots for those inoculated with the Sinovac and AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines soon.
He believed the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Authority (NPRA) of MoH is expected to make a decision on booster shots in the near future.
Dr Sim noted that at the moment, MoH has just approved booster shots for the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine and there is to be no mixing of vaccines.
Dr Sim who is also Minister for Local Government and Housing said those in the high risk groups or aged above 60 seeking booster shots can make an appointment with the nearest general practitioner clinics after this Friday.
“As with (National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme) PICK rolled out at beginning of the year, after this group, will be those with comorbidities.
“I am sure that as there are more people approaching the 6-month (after receiving the second dose of the vaccines) timeline, medical experts will have a decision on administering booster shots for those with Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines,” he said in a social media post yesterday.
Meanwhile, booster shots have been implemented in Sarawak beginning yesterday with medical frontliners and high risk vulnerable groups throughout the State inoculated with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
He extended his appreciation to Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, MoH and the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) for entrusting Sarawak to be the first State in the country to have the booster doses. — DayakDaily
