KUCHING, March 18: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian emphasises there are serious consequences for non-compliance with the Restricted Movement Order, with first time offenders facing the possibility of jail time for up to two years and/or getting fined up to RM200,000.
“Under the Restricted Movement Order, first time offenders can be jailed for up to two years and/or $200,000 fine. Second time offenders can be jailed for up to five years and/or $200,000 fine,” warned Dr Sim.
He expressed disappointment that some people still went ahead with their morning routine of meeting at Kenyalang Market Food Court for breakfast despite the implementation of the said order.
He acknowledged that the order would temporarily disrupt people’s lifestyle, but it is implemented for the protection of the people themselves.
He thus called on the public to abide by the order by ordering takeaways or ordering food or groceries via online platforms.
“We need everyone to cooperate, to help and to protect you and me in Sarawak from Covid-19. We don’t want to lose you to Covid-19.
“Sarawak already had one death, which is one too many already.
“If you love Sarawak, let’s change our behaviour. There is no need for the law to change our behaviour. Love Sarawak. Love each one of us,” Dr Sim asserted in a social media post. — DayakDaily
