SIBU, July 14: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is keen to find out why two Sarawak-based parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for a collaboration in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, in a meeting scheduled to take place tomorrow (July 15).
“We will discuss tomorrow night as we would like to hear what has happened. Why did you do it in Kuala Lumpur? We are Sarawak-based parties. Do you want to become part of the chaotic West Malaysian party living in Sarawak? I don’t know,” said Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian tonight.
He was referring to the recent collaboration and MoU signed between Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB).
Speaking to reporters after declaring open 2023 Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF), Dr Sim who is SUPP president said Sarawak is known for its stability, but the two political parties having a function in Kuala Lumpur was questionable.
He reiterated that GPS won a two-thirds majority in the 2021 State Election due to unity among the four component parties which include Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and PDP.
“We will discuss these things together. That’s the spirit of GPS. Why we can win so many seats is because there is unity in GPS. But tomorrow night the meeting (is) not just because of the event yesterday,” he explained.
Earlier today, GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg had said that PSB was not a part of GPS despite the collaboration with PDP.
Dr Sim, however, claimed that he was not surprised with the collaboration.
“It’s not surprising because PSB has been sending signals to PRS, PDP even to SUPP. A person’s character never changes like anai-anai (termite). I don’t want to say more than that,” he said.
PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and PSB president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Kuala Lumpur yesterday to formalise their parties’ collaboration.
The agreement, Tiong said, was another step to ensuring political stability in the state and country. — DayakDaily
