KUCHING, Feb 6: Deputy Chief Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian has called on eligible Sarawakians to apply for Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS) worth RM200 per month for up to three years.

The Public Health, Local Government and Housing Minister said the assistance has been available since October last year.

He informed that eligible applicants are estimated up to 20,000 people; however, the number of applications received was relatively low.

“So far, (there are) relatively few applicants and only 790 approved by the committee (in charge of the assistance),” he said during the weekly ‘ShallWeeTalk’ programme broadcast on Facebook yesterday.

At the same time, Dr Sim mentioned that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will officially launch the Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS) worth RM10,000 and Post-Covid-19 Development Plan 2030 tomorrow.

“Under the Post-Covid-19 Development Plan 2030, there are many programmes aimed at helping eligible Sarawakians to raise their household income per month from RM5,000 to RM15,000 by 2030, to shape a prosperous and strong State, inclusivity, and create an environmentally sustainable State,” he said.

Dr Sim also said he often heard complaints, especially from the Chinese community in general, that they are not aware of the various initiatives by the Sarawak government.

“Therefore, I thank Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng for his persistent resilience in providing accurate information to fellow Sarawakians weekly for the last two and a half years,” he emphasised. ― DayakDaily
