70 arrested in Mukah for illegal gambling, cockfighting

MUKAH, Feb 6: Quick action by the police team led to the arrest of 73 individuals who participated in illegal gambling and cockfighting in Mukah on Friday.

According to Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief SAC Lukas Aket, the suspects tried to escape when a police team showed up at a shed at Jalan Balingian at 12.20pm.


The police detained 70 men aged between 15 and 75 and three women aged 25 to 57.

“All of them were taking part in the illegal activities when the police arrived. They tried to run away, but our men managed to arrest them,” he said.

The team also seized RM219,211 as well as gambling chips estimated to be worth RM1 million, 10 live roosters, three dead ones, a whiteboard, and a set of cards.

The case is being investigated under Section 3 (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1962 and Section 7 (2) of the Common Gambling House Act 1953. — DayakDaily
