KUCHING, May 12: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the appointment of three ministers to his cabinet at a press conference today.
They are Lim Guan Eng as Finance Minister, Mohamad Sabu as Defence Minister and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as Home Minister.
“We have not named the other seven ministers (supposed also to be announced today for core ministries). We have also request the four parties from the coalition to submit three names from each party for the consideration of the prime minister,” Dr Mahathir said.
Dr Mahathir has announced the formation of a Council of Elders comprising eminent persons who will serve as advisors to the government.
“A special team of eminent persons was also formed to advise the government on economic and financial matters during this transitional period. They are, former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, former Bank Negara governor Tan Seri Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Petronas president Tan Seri Hassan Merican, tycoon Robert Kuok Hock Nien and economist Dr Jomo Kwame Sundaram.
“The team will assist in shaping up policies and programmes to achieve the 100-day promises that Pakatan Harapan has made to the people,” he said.
The secretariat of this team will be led by economist Dr Muhammed Abdul Khalid, while the head of the Media and Communication team will be Datuk A Kadir Jasin.
Dr Mahathir added that the lifespan of this team will be 100 days. — DayakDaily
