Dr Lulie Melling re-elected as member of Executive Board of International Peatland Society

KUCHING, Aug 11: Director of the Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute (TROPI), Datu Dr. Lulie Melling, has been re-elected as a member of the Executive Board of International Peatland Society (IPS).

The election was held during The 17th International Peat Congress (IPC) of the International Peatland Society (IPS), which took place for the first time in China from August 4 to 9.

The position was first held by her in 2018 as the first Asian and female member.

Her re-election is also a testament to Malaysia’s recognised leadership in tropical peatland and scientific research.

During the congress, Dr Lulie said that her position on the IPS Executive Council provides an important platform to promote Sarawak’s commitment to development and conservation on the international stage.

She emphasised the significance of tropical peatlands as an important resource for Sarawak.

She also highlighted how research and innovation have transformed what was once considered a wasteland into valuable arable land for food and economic security. — DayakDaily
