KUCHING, Nov 12: Incumbent for Mambong Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidates, including himself, have been given the mandate to attend activities in their respective constituencies although the list of candidates for the election is yet to be revealed.
“Whether the list is ready or not, I am not sure. But one thing I know is that it’s not been revealed yet. We have been given the mandate by the top leadership to organise activities that we are supposed to do,” Dr Jerip told reporters today.
Dr Jerip, who is Assistant Minister of Transport, had earlier officiated at Yayasan Sarawak’s school uniform voucher presentation at Padawan sub-district office along Jalan Borneo Heights.
He also said that he has been working hard since winning the 2016 state election to help all communities in the constituency.
“Since winning the 2016 state election, I have been working hard and trying my best to help the people and the sentiment on the ground is that the people still want to be with GPS,” Dr Jerip said.
When asked whether he will defend his seat, Dr Jerip replied that the decision is with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg as GPS chairman.
“For my candidacy, the chief minister will decide,” Dr Jerip, who has been the assemblyman for four terms.
Parti Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Mambong branch during a meeting last Sunday have nominated Dr Jerip to defend the seat for GPS.
Meanwhile, 197 students from 11 schools in the constituency each received the RM200 voucher to buy school uniforms.
Present at the programme were Sarawak Administrative Officer (SAO) from Padawan sub-district office Julius Scott Sapong, and Zamarahi Saidi representing the Yayasan Sarawak director. — DayakDaily
