KUCHING, Nov 12: A Form Six Centre (PTE) is being built in the old building of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Limbang to meet local demand.

According to a report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said it is the second PTE to be built in the State after the first one was built in Saratok.

“We have discussed with the Education Department in Limbang to utilise the old school building of SMK Limbang for the PTE and the matter has been agreed upon.

“The Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA) will build three dormitory blocks and one canteen block so that it is suitable to be used as a PTE,” he told reporters when met after a working visit to SMK Limbang on Wednesday (Nov 10).

He added that the 18-month project has begun since October this year, and is expected to be completed in March, 2023.

On the same note, Dr Abdul Rahman noted, he and several other representative in Limbang have also applied for a technical school to be built in the district.

He said this matter has been included in the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK12).

“I also hope that Mara College and Giatmara Centre will be built in Limbang to provide further education opportunities for students who complete their high school education,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Rahman also expressed his gratitude to the Sarawak government for its commitment to upgrade and improve the education system in Limbang through NRDA allocations, even though education matters fall under Federal government jurisdiction.

Previously, NRDA has allocated a total of RM50 million to repair and build new facilities for 35 primary schools and five secondary schools in Limbang division. — DayakDaily
