Dr Jerip retains Mambong with huge majority

KUCHING, Dec 18: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for N19 Mambong Datuk Dr Jerip Susil has retained the seat with a majority of 3,071 votes in 12th Sarawak Election.

In a five-cornered fight, he managed to be crowned victor by polling 5,865 votes against Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) Sanjan Daik’s 2,794 votes, Parti Bumi Kenyalang candidate Joshua @ Katok Roman’s 958 votes, Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) candidate Chong Siew Hung’s 114 votes and Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate Chang Hon Hung’s 1,517 votes.

Dr Jerip, who was deputy president of PSB, resigned from the party on July 11, 2019 and joined Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu about four months later.

In the 2016 Sarawak Election, Dr Jerip stood as a direct Barisan Nasional candidate and retained the seat with a majority of 3,333.

He managed to garner 6,161 votes against DAP candidate Sanjan Daik’s 2,828 votes and the then Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate Datuk Willie Mongin’s 2,645 votes. — DayakDaily
