KUCHING, March 1: An individual can still be infected with Covid-19 if the antibody has yet to reach the desired level of immunity after receiving the vaccine, said Sarawak Health Department (JKNS) director Dr Chin Zin Hing.

According to Dr Chin, the possibility of infection would also occur if the individual has already been infected by the coronavirus prior to receiving the vaccine but not showing any symptoms.

“This is because an individual is not completely protected after receiving their first dose of vaccination, and it also takes a few weeks for the second dose to reach the targeted immunity,” he said in a press statement today.

Dr Chin noted the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine must be injected for the second time in the third week (21 days) after receiving the first dose.

He said the immunity is achieved approximately two weeks after the second dose.

“JKNS will also periodically monitor the vaccine recipients to find out whether the recipients have successfully produced enough antibodies to protect them against future infection,” he added. — DayakDaily
