KUCHING, Feb 25: The State level Covid-19 vaccinations program will be given free on a voluntary basis to all eligible Malaysians age 18 and above in three phases starting Feb 26, 2021 (Friday).
According to the State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing in a statement today, the vaccination program will be conducted in three phases where the first phase will involve frontliners, followed by the second phase for Malaysian senior citizens aged 60-years old and above and those with comorbidity risk, and the third phase for all eligible Malaysians.
“The vaccinations jab for the first phase will be conducted in a few government’s healthcare facilities, including in the community hall that has been designated as the Vaccination Center (PPV).
“The second phase will also be given in government healthcare facilities and PPV, including in selected private sector’s healthcare facilities, as well as other facilities such as the senior citizens’ institutions.
“For the third phase, it will be implemented through an ‘outreach’ process in identified community halls throughout the state, apart from the government and private sector’s health facilities,” he said.
Dr Chin explained that the general objective of the vaccinations program is to protect the frontliners from the Covid-19 infection and to prevent the health and safety system in the state from collapsing.
Apart from that, he said, it is also to protect Malaysians, and Sarawakians, in particular, those of Covid-19 high risk groups.
“The vaccination would also form herd immunity among the general population following which there will be reduction in Covid-19 transmission especially in Sarawak, where the business sector will be allowed to operate,” he added. – DayakDaily.
