KUCHING, May 21: Dr Chin Zin Hing, the man who has guided the State Health Department during the Covid-19 pandemic, has officially retired yesterday after having spent over 30 years in the state healthcare system.
This news was shared by Minister for Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian on his Facebook post last night as he extended his appreciation and honoured Dr Chin for his long service and contributions to the medical development in Sarawak.
“In Sarawak, our one state medical director covered the areas and job scopes of 11 states medical directors in Peninsula Malaysia!
“This is why the standard norm in Malaysia is not applicable, unfair and not acceptable to Sarawak,” he said.
Commending him for his excellent service, he wished Dr Chin a happy retirement.
“Thank you very very very much,” Dr Sim added.
Dr Chin has become a familiar face and voice especially over the past year ever since the Covid-19 pandemic landed on the shores of Sarawak.
Through the uncertainty of the pandemic, Dr Chin has worked tirelessly in collaboration with State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and all relevant departments and agencies throughout Sarawak to provide daily updates of the pandemic situation to the people of Sarawak.
Following the announcement of Dr Chin’s retirement, netizens have poured in love and good wishes for the doctor and thanked him for his dedication and commitment.
In extending their congratulations, many have praised him for his hard and splendid work in handling the pandemic while keeping Sarawakians and officials updated on the virus’ progress in Sarawak.
His calm, sturdiness and steady hand has guided Sarawak through these troubling times and Sarawak will continue to navigate through the pandemic with the State Health Department and SDMC giving their all out effort.
Meanwhile, the successor who will be taking over the baton from Dr Chin has yet to be announced. — DayakDaily
