KUCHING, Nov 16: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof commends Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on being honoured by the Emperor of Japan.
He said the award reflects global recognition of Sarawak’s leadership in renewable and clean energy.
“This is not just any award—this is an award from a foreign nation that sees him as one of the champions in advancing green and clean energy, and as a champion not only for Sarawak but for Malaysia, and recognised internationally.
“I extend my congratulations—he truly deserves it,” he said to reporters after attending the Women of Impact forum at the Borneo Cultures Museum Auditorium on Saturday (Nov 15).
Abang Johari was honoured with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star by Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo, Japan on Nov 11, 2025.
The Premier described the achievement as as a great honour not only for himself but also for the people of Sarawak.
The award, one of Japan’s highest honours, recognises Abang Johari’s outstanding contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting economic, technological, and cultural cooperation between Sarawak and Japan. — DayakDaily
