KUCHING, May 15: Prominent Dayak community leader and former senator, Datuk Douglas Sullang Ganda, has passed away on Tuesday (May 12) at the age of 82.
In a message issued by Astana Sarawak, Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, expressed their condolences over his passing.
He described the late Sullang as a distinguished figure who has contributed greatly to society, particularly to the Dayak community and the development of Sarawak, through his active involvement in leadership, business, and public service.
Wan Junaidi also cited Sullang’s contributions as the founder and former vice president of the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), as well as a former senator, as among his significant legacies that will continue to be remembered and appreciated, especially in efforts to empower the development and progress of the Dayak community in the State.
He also expressed hope that all the contributions, sacrifices, and cherished memories left behind by the late Datuk Douglas would remain engraved in the memory of the community and serve as an inspiration to future generations.
Meanwhile, Works Minister and Kapit MP, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, expressed sadness over Sullang’s passing as he paid his last respects to him in Saratok on Thursday (May 14).

“The late Datuk Douglas was one of the prominent figures in the Dayak community who left a significant impact through his service, leadership, and contributions to the development of Sarawak.
“He made many contributions, particularly in public service, business, and community development, reflecting his commitment and love for the people and the state of Sarawak,” said Nanta in a Facebook post.
He also acknowledged Sullang’s role in the DCCI as well as his position as former senator, in which he played an important role in championing the progress of the Dayak community and strengthening community participation in the mainstream of development.
“All his contributions, service, and memories will continue to be appreciated and will remain part of a lasting legacy in all our memories,” he said. — DayakDaily
