SRI AMAN, Nov 5: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie is excited to have her name listed on the top of the ballot paper.
She hoped that having her name as the first in the list, as announced by the returning officer at the nomination centre, will give her an advantage when voters go to the polls on Nov 19.
“I’d like to think so (an advantage) and I like to be number one. I hoped I will be the one and the chosen one,” she said when responding to reporters about her preparations for the 15th General Election (GE15).
Despite feeling some anxiety, Doris is optimistic about her chances in steering P202 Sri Aman back under GPS wings.
“It is nothing less than an ‘all out’ victory for Gabungan Parti Sarawak,” she said.
Doris acknowledged challenges posed by the four-cornered fight she is facing and said she would not rest on her laurels.
“We have 14 days to finish it off with whatever we have prepared all this while. As I said, until the last vote is cast, I will not rest on my laurels,” she reiterated.
“Fourteen days is a critical period because time is very short. We keep to the very best (of our efforts) for as far as our GPS machinery is concerned, we are all prepared.
“We are very fit in terms of machinery, but then again, I will not take it lightly. Because in any battle until you win, the battle is not over,” added Doris.
She was also not perturbed by the experience of incumbent Dato Masir Kujat (Independent) who has represented Sri Aman since 2018, and that of Wilson Entabang’s (Parti Sarawak Bersatu) candidacy, who ran in the recent State election.
Doris pointed out that it is different this time as it is the first time they are using the GPS symbol in P202 Sri Aman, which can bring the voters together in supporting her.
“And as far as I am concerned, this is the first time GPS actually contested using the symbol in P202 Sri Aman, and with all that GPS is doing, I’d like to believe that the rakyat, regardless of whether there are new ‘calon’ (candidate) or experience ‘calon’, I’d like to think it is all about GPS.
“I think what GPS has done for the rakyat since it was formed is very prominent and significant, especially as it is all about Sarawakians—’Utamakan Sarawak’ (Sarawak First),” she said. — DayakDaily
