KUCHING, July 19: Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen continues to harp on equal budget distribution and how Batu Kawah constituency was shortchanged on development funds, but he cannot share how much development funds he secured for Kota Sentosa, Bandar Kuching, and Stampin during his 19-year tenure as YB, claims Kho Teck Wan.
In a statement, the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Women chief asked: “Why are there still so many earth drains and park drains in Kota Sentosa that are in such dilapidated conditions that current Kota Sentosa YB is doing catching up repair and maintenance works?
“Instead, he deflected my question by boasting about the three flyovers in Kota Sentosa that began construction during his term as YB in Kota Sentosa.
“As we all know the late CM (Chief Minister Pehin Sri) Adenan Satem fought hard with the federal government for the building of Sarawak’s Pan Borneo Highway.
“Seeing YB Chong boast about the construction of three flyovers in Kota Sentosa that are part of the Pan Borneo Highway left a bad taste in my mouth, demonstrating how far YB Chong is willing to go to claim credit, even if it is someone else’s credit,” she asserted.
Kho said that instead of building a flyover, traffic experts recommended new roads and a second bridge for Batu Kawah to alleviate traffic congestion.
“The plan is estimated at RM300 million and is put under Sarawak’s 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) midterm review as there is no reply yet from the federal government on the extra funding requested,” she added.
She continued, “I would also like to ask YB Chong on what his plan is to solve the massive traffic jam at 8th Mile?
“Since YB Chong is unable to answer my question, it is time for the people to replace him with someone who has a longer term vision and is capable of fighting for the development fund in Padungan and Stampin.” — DayakDaily
