SIBU, Jan 23: Police have advised the public, especially the youths, not to get caught up in illegal racing activities.

Acting Sibu district police chief, Supt Dr Collin Babat, warned that such activity also endangered the safety of others.

“It can also cause road accidents, injuries, and deaths,” he said.

According to him, legal action, summons, and compounds will be imposed on them if they still disobey instructions from law enforcement.

When asked to comment on an operation carried out by Sibu district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) from 8pm to 10pm at Jalan Morshidi Sidek here on Friday night, Collin said, a total of 51 summonses were issued.

“A total of 68 motorcycles were inspected, followed by 33 cars, 12 pickup vehicles, and six vans. A total of 83 individuals were also inspected. During the two-hour operation, we have issued a total of 51 summons,” he said.

Collin said the purpose of the operation was to educate on and detect illegal racing activities around the district. — DayakDaily
