KUCHING, Nov 3: The retail price for three-ply face masks was lowered to RM0.70 from RM1 per piece while the wholesale ceiling price for the masks was reduced to RM0.65 from the previous RM0.95 per piece, effective Nov 1.
Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sarawak, in a media statement today, stated that the new ceiling price is enforced under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (PCAP) 2011.
KPDNHEP Sarawak director Dato Stanley Tan reported that 8,906 inspections and monitoring of price and supply for face masks was conducted throughout the state from Jan 29 to Nov 2.
“The enforcement actions resulted in five cases with seizures valued at RM493 and compounds totalling to RM12,000.
“From our statistics record from Jan 1 to Nov 2, KPDNHEP Sarawak conducted checks on 55,244 business premises in both rural and urban areas. These led to 910 cases with seizure valued at about RM2.81 million and compounds totalling RM191,800 issued,” he said.
Tan warned that strict actions will be taken against those who failed to comply with the PCAP.
