Diesel smuggling bust leads to RM78,800 seizure in Miri

MIRI, Jan 8 : A tactical operation by the Marine Police Force’s Region 5 Marine Intelligence Unit (URM) resulted in the interception of a vehicle suspected of diesel smuggling along Jalan Lutong-Kuala Baram at approximately 2.30pm on Tuesday (Jan 7).

Miri District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu reported that officers detained a white Toyota Hilux single-cab pick-up during the operation, known as ‘Op Taring Kontraban’.

Upon inspection of the vehicle, authorities discovered a suspected load of diesel oil being transported illegally.

The seizure included the Toyota Hilux, valued at RM75,000, and diesel worth RM3,800, bringing the total value of confiscated goods to RM78,800.

The incident is being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961.

All confiscated items and the suspect have been handed over to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living for further investigation and action. — DayakDaily
