Diesel embezzlement: Sibu marine police arrest three, seize items and fuel worth RM378,155

SIBU, Aug 17: Three men were arrested by a Sibu Region 5 Marine Police team on suspicion of diesel fuel embezzlement activities involving a total of RM378,155 worth of seized items and fuel today.

The suspects were the drivers of vehicles arrested in an ‘Op Contraban’ operation which was carried out from 6am to 8.30am at three separate locations.

Sibu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zulkipli Suhaili said the three men aged between 28 and 42-years-old were seen driving their vehicles in a suspicious manner when the operation team carried out inspections at Jalan Gambir, Jalan Teng Chin Hua and Jalan Sungai Bidut here.


He said, the results of the inspection found that all the vehicles including a Toyota van, a one-tonne Toyota lorry and a Nissan tanker lorry were carrying diesel fuel with a total capacity of 31,700 litres.

“The suspects had verbally admitted to illegally carrying a load of diesel involving a confiscation value of RM378,155,” he said.

According to Zulkipli, the arrests and seized items were handed over to the investigating officer from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Sibu Division for investigation and further action.

He added that the case and seizures were being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. — DayakDaily
