KUCHING, July 10: The Sarawak government and the federal unity government should implement a method for residents of longhouses and rural villages without land grants to access assistance facilities, says Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak head of information Senator Abun Sui Anyit.
In a statement, Abun Sui praised the federal government’s programme, led by Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, for providing housing assistance worth RM60,000 to citizens in the B40 category.
However, he stated that citizens must have their own land grant in order to receive the assistance.
“Because land is under the jurisdiction of the State government, the Sarawak government must fully cooperate,” he said.
Abun Sui noted that in Sarawak, longhouses and villages in the interior do not normally have land grants.
“Therefore, the Sarawak government and the federal unity government should devise a method to enable residents of longhouses and rural villages without land grants to obtain these assistance facilities without difficulty.
“For example, the Sarawak government should provide guarantees for land ownership in the interior so that the requirement of owning a land grant does not become a barrier to the rural people receiving this house-building assistance,” he added. — DayakDaily
