KUCHING, March 3: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), in collaboration with the Desa Ilmu Uptown Vendors Association, is organising the Desa Ilmu Uptown Ramadan Bazaar this year, featuring 112 vendors.
The bazaar was officially launched by the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Regional Affairs and Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament (MP), Datuk Rubiah Wang.
According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the main objective of this event is to promote the Ramadan bazaar within MPKS’ administrative area and to raise public awareness of the Sarawak government’s efforts and initiatives towards a ‘Green Market,’ in line with the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
As part of efforts to reduce plastic bag use, MPKS encourages visitors to bring their own bags by giving reusable bags to the first 300 visitors.
To ensure food hygiene and safety, MPKS has also implemented a food safety and cleanliness awareness programme.
Additionally, Bank Rakyat Kota Samarahan Branch has donated aprons and hats to all vendors as part of its cleanliness initiative.
The Ramadan Bazaar will operate from 3pm to 10pm throughout the month of Ramadan.
MPKS has collaborated with several agencies such as the Samarahan Division Resident’s Office, the Samarahan District Office, the Samarahan Division Health Office, and the Bank Rakyat Kota Samarahan Branch.
Present at the event were MPKS Chairman Dato Peter Minos, Samarahan Division Deputy Resident Rais Ahmat, Samarahan District Officer Ahmad Abdul Razak, MPKS Secretary Gustian Durani, and the Temenggong of the Malay Community in Samarahan Division, Chek Bujang. – DayakDaily
