LIMBANG, July 30: Avoid selecting ‘two ringgit’ contractors and instead opt for reputable and qualified registered contractors for development projects to prevent delays, such as those experienced with the Meritam-Telahak-Buangabai-Malagangai Phase 2 road project.

In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Malaysia Deputy Transport Minister and Limbang MP Datuk Hasbi Habibollah emphasised that the Public Works Department (JKR) is working to continue the project.

“The project, frequently highlighted on social media, has stalled and faced delays as it failed to be completed due to an irresponsible contractor who withdrew, disappeared and could not be located,” he told reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of the 2024 Bebuak Mud Festival on Sunday (July 28).

Hasbi stressed that it is crucial to appoint reputable contractors to avoid future issues.

The ceremony was attended by Limbang Division Resident Unus Tambi, Limbang District Council Mayor Sufian Mohat, Limbang District Officer Sulaiman Engal, and other community leaders.

The Bebuak Mud Festival 2024, held over two days starting July 27, featured a range of activities including volleyball, tug-of-war, wall climbing, a flying fox, a lucky draw, karaoke, and more. — DayakDaily
