KUCHING, May 23: The pre-launching ceremony of the Batang Saribas 1 Bridge will be held this Sunday (May 25).
According to a press release from the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas will officiate the ceremony.
In the press release, Sarawak JKR director Cassidy Morris said that the 1.55km-long bridge, which costs RM375.5 million, is the main component in the Sarawak Coastal Road Package 2, connecting Pusa and Beladin in the Betong division.
Other than the main bridge, others work include upgrading the existing road that is more than 2.5km long and the construction of a new road almost 2.6km in length on both sides of Beladin and Pusa.
“This infrastructure will replace the ferry service that previously took around 30 minutes to cross Batang Saribas, cutting travel time to just a few minutes.
“Sarawak JKR wishes to express its highest appreciation to all parties who have contributed to this project’s success.
“We believe that the Batang Saribas 1 Bridge will be a catalyst for the transformation of mobility and more sustainable development in the coastal areas of this State,” he said. — DayakDaily
