KUCHING, July 24: The Sarawak government is still looking into compensation for Native Customary Rights (NCR) land owners involved in the carbon trading industry.
According to a statement, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this will apply in particular to land which still have a lot of big trees.
“The trees, as in this initiative, can be used to store carbon dioxide in the efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change and global warming.
“The NCR land can be used in addition to the large land areas still under forest cover in the State and the owners will be paid,” he said at a meeting with NCR landowners from Kubal Ili, Kubal Tengah and Kubal Ulu held at Rh Mendit Usu in Penom, Betong, yesterday.
During the meeting, the landowners was briefed on preparations to survey their lands which will be implemented soon.
Meanwhile, Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban assemblyman presented RM393,000 to Women’s Bureaus from 94 longhouses in Bukit Saban constituency. — DayakDaily
