KUCHING, March 15: Sumitomo Corporation Asia & Oceania Group has expressed interest in greater participation in Sarawak’s green projects.
Deputy Premier Datuk Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, in a statement today, said the matter was put forward during his discussion with Sumitomo Corporation Asia & Oceania Group chief executive officer Keigo Shiomi at a meeting held in Singapore yesterday (March 14).
According to him, Sumitomo Corporation is interested in being more involved in green projects in Sarawak, such as biomass bamboo, renewal energy, Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS), green metals, chemicals, and derivatives.
During the meeting, Awang Tengah, who is also Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment Sarawak, welcomed Sumitomo to explore and invest in the bamboo plantation project and new economic sectors, including the green and digital economy.
Sumitomo has several collaborations in Sarawak and is currently developing a hydrogen-related production project in Bintulu. — DayakDaily
