KUCHING, April 4: Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian lauded Sarawak Women, Childhood, and Community Well-being Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah for the Temporary Identification Documents (DSITKS) initiative.

In a Facebook post today, Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Minister, said he was proud of the ‘Sarawak First Initiative’, which is the first of its kind in Malaysia.

“For some unknown reasons, these (stateless) children born in Sarawak have yet to have identity cards (IC), and without it, they cannot go to school, and when they go to hospitals, they are treated like foreigners and charged with foreigners’ fees.

“DSITKS will allow them to get on with their lives. I congratulate Fatimah for taking the leadership to find this temporary solution,” he said.

DSITKS is a temporary document for stateless individuals in Sarawak under the age of 21 to facilitate obtaining access to education and health facilities. — DayakDaily
