KUCHING, Sept 2: Sarawak is the last defender of what was initially agreed upon in the formation of Malaysia, says Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Dato Dr Sim Kui Hian.
He said when a media political analyst analysed the future of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and its unity government in 2022, they found that Malaysia, especially Peninsular Malaysia, will be more divided than before.
“This same analyst shared that the just concluded six state elections (in Peninsular Malaysia) confirmed that their findings in 2022 are a fact. We are in that position where Malaysia is divided, especially in Peninsular Malaysia, as there is over-politicking, polarisation, and extremism.
“This is very sad that Malaysia, after sixty years, ended up (going) in that direction,” he said during a special SUPP convention in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s independence at the party’s headquarters today.
Dr Sim is also optimistic that Sarawak is more capable than before because of its strong political leadership, which is not by chance and was proven through the State’s acknowledgement of its high-income status by the World Bank.
“If West Malaysia’s political leadership are united and strong, they would not be worse than us now,” he said.
With that, Dr Sim applauded Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for forming Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) after the 2018 general election.
“Abang Johari’s experiences had made Sarawak stable and was the beginning of its political and financial independence,” he said. — DayakDaily
