KUCHING, April 10: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah says the Betong Division Development Agency has allocated a total of RM3 million to assist in the development of all schools in the Bukit Saban constituency.
Uggah, who is also Sarawak Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, revealed that the government is also in the process of identifying the most strategic site for the proposed Betong International Secondary School under Yayasan Sarawak.
At the same time, he announced that the tender for the construction of a larger and improved hall at SK Nanga Gayau is expected to be called next month, with the project estimated to cost RM900,000.
He shared this after officiating the closing ceremony of an English Language Carnival programme at SK Nanga Gayau today.
He also announced that a new access road worth RM300,000 is currently under construction to enhance connectivity to the school, while RM2.7 million has been approved for the construction of an overhead bridge linking the school across the Pan Borneo Highway.
Meanwhile, Uggah urged rural students to take the mastery of the English language seriously, stressing that it is key to future success in an increasingly globalised world.
“With a mastery of the language, you will be able to communicate with people worldwide. You will be able to keep in touch with all the latest developments the world over.
“Your chance to secure good employment will be very bright,” he said.
Uggah emphasised that these are among the reasons why Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is steadfast on the need to position English as the State’s second official language. – DayakDaily
