KUCHING, Oct 1: Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian hopes the Budget 2024 announcement for schools and hospitals in Sarawak will not be merely words.

Dr Sim said Sarawak is looking forward to being able to build more schools following the Budget 2024 announcement.

“This includes budget to repair dilapidated schools and hospitals in the State.

“They should not just announce it, but they must do something about it on the ground too,” he told reporters when met after officiating at the Remaja SAKKOK Futsal Competition held at Kampung Sinar Budi Baru in Batu Kawah today.

He said that other than the budget for development, the federal government should give priority to the construction of healthcare facilities in Sarawak to reduce the cost borne by the people.

“For example, for Sarawak Cancer Hospital, although the Sarawak government is willing to bear the construction cost first, there is still a need for the proposal and budget for it to be put in Budget 2024.

“This will ensure that the federal government will remember to pay us back,” he added.

Dr Sim also said he is confident that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will go all out to ensure all the development needs for Sarawak will be met as fast as possible to benefit the people.

“There is no reason for the Sarawak government to delay it,” he explained. — DayakDaily
