KUCHING, March 15: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas has revealed plans to include visitor facilities such as a car park and mini rest and recreation areas at the Batang Lupar 2 Bridge in Sri Aman, responding to requests from local elected representatives in the division.
Uggah announced in a statement today that the construction progress of the Batang Lupar 2 Bridge is ahead of schedule, currently at 42.65 per cent completion.
“It is 14 days ahead of schedule. I hope it can be completed before June 2025,” he remarked.
Once finished, the RM223.6 million Batang Lupar 2 Bridge will stand as the nation’s tallest cable-stayed bridge, towering at 145.5 meters in height.
Additionally, the bridge will feature a navigational clearance of 200 meters by 23 meters.
In addition to the bridge, Uggah also highlighted the progress of the new Sri Aman-Betong Highway, a segment of the Second Trunk Road, which will start from the Batang Lupar 2 Bridge.
He said that the 27.82 kilometers long highway will facilitate increased traffic flow between the two towns and other parts of the State, ultimately promoting economic activities in the region.
“It would shorten traveling time from Sri Aman to Betong to about 20 minutes compared to the current one hour when using the Pan Borneo Highway for a distance of 75 kilometers,” he explained.
During his visit to the project site, Uggah also conducted the earth-breaking ceremony for the new road from the Kejatu Road junction to the Batang Lupar 2 Bridge.
This RM154.8 million road aims to bypass the town area to provide direct access to the bridge and is expected to be completed by August 2026. — DayakDaily
